Original Poetry, Every Mood

Sad Shayari

Shayari has always been the shortest way to say the hardest things. This site is a growing archive of original sad shayari written in Hindi, with an English (Roman) transliteration under every line, so you can read it in whichever script feels natural, on whichever device you happen to be using. Below is a mixed collection covering heartbreak, loneliness, everyday life, memories, and the quiet hope that follows sadness. If you're looking for something more specific (love, life, Urdu tradition, a two-line status), every category is linked further down this page and in the menu above.

Memories

Har shayari mein ek kahani chhupi hoti hai,

bas padhne wala use apni bana leta hai.

Heartbreak

Dil toota to shabd bhi kam pad gaye,

bas do laaino mein sab kuch samet liya.

Life

Har udaas dil ki apni ek shayari hoti hai,

bas likhne ki himmat sabmein nahin hoti.

Loneliness

Tanha raaton mein shayari hi saath deti hai,

jab koi aur sunne wala nahin bachta.

Memories

Guzre lamhon ki khushboo ab bhi baaki hai,

bas unhein chhoone ka raasta kho gaya hai.

Hope

Ummeed ki ek kiran abhi baaki hai,

andhera chahe kitna bhi gehra kyun na ho.

Life

Shabdon mein dard utaarna bhi ek hunar hai,

har koi ise shayari nahin bana paata.

Memories

Uski yaadein ab bhi taaza hain dil mein,

jaise kal ki hi baat ho, barson purani nahin.

Loneliness

Akele baithkar bhi accha lagta hai kabhi-kabhi,

kyunki khud se badi sohbat koi nahin hoti.

Hope

Har toota hua dil ek din phir dhadakta hai,

bas use thoda waqt chahiye hota hai.

Life

Uska jaana ek khaalipan chhod gaya,

jise koi aur bhar nahin paaya aaj tak.

Life

Har muskurahat ke peeche ek shayari chhupi hai,

bas use padhne ki nazar chahiye hoti hai.

Loneliness

Tanhai ab dar nahin, aadat ban gayi hai,

aur aadatein dheere-dheere saathi ban jaati hain.

Memories

Beeta hua kal lautkar nahin aata,

par uski seekh hamesha saath rehti hai.

Hope

Har andheri raat ke baad ek subah hoti hai,

bas us par bharosa rakhna padta hai.

Heartbreak

Jo dard alfaaz nahin ban paata,

wo aankhon se behkar baahar aa jaata hai.

Life

Har dil mein ek adhoori shayari likhi hai,

bas use poora karne ka waqt nahin milta.

Memories

Waqt ke saath sab kuch dhundhla ho jaata hai,

bas kuch yaadein saaf reh jaati hain hamesha ke liye.

Life

Har koi apne hisse ka dard lekar chalta hai,

bas dikhane aur chhupane ka fark hota hai.

Loneliness

Tanhai mein likhi shayari sabse sacchi hoti hai,

kyunki wahan dikhave ki koi jagah nahin hoti.

Hope

Dil toota to nayi shuruaat ki ummeed bhi jaagi,

shayad har ant kisi nayi shuruaat ka darwaza hai.

Heartbreak

Jo dard shayari mein utar jaata hai,

wo thoda halka ho jaata hai dil se.

What is shayari, and why write it sad?

Shayari is a form of short Hindi/Urdu poetry, most often written as a two-line couplet called a sher, though longer forms exist too. A single sher is meant to be complete on its own: one clear feeling, delivered in as few words as possible, usually with a small twist or turn in the second line that gives the first line its full weight.

Sad shayari specifically is one of the most searched and shared categories of shayari online, because heartbreak, loneliness, and everyday struggle are feelings almost everyone recognises but rarely says out loud in plain language. A two-line shayari gives people a way to express that feeling (as a WhatsApp status, an Instagram caption, or just something to read quietly) without having to explain the whole story behind it.

The tradition draws on both Hindi and Urdu poetic vocabulary: words like dil (heart), dard (pain), tanhai (loneliness), yaadein (memories), and gham (sorrow) recur constantly, not because they're clichés, but because they're precise: each one names a specific, recognisable shade of sadness that a longer English sentence often takes several words to reach. Reading shayari in Hindi, even in translation, keeps that precision intact in a way a loose paraphrase usually loses.

Reading in two scripts

Shayari in India today lives in three overlapping forms: the original Devanagari (Hindi) script, the Urdu Nastaliq script it historically grew alongside, and the Roman/Hinglish transliteration most people actually type and read on their phones. This site presents every shayari in Devanagari with a Roman transliteration directly underneath, rather than picking one and forcing you to choose. If you grew up reading Hindi in school, the Devanagari line will read most naturally. If you're more comfortable typing and reading in Roman letters (which is how most WhatsApp and Instagram shayari actually gets shared), the line underneath is written exactly how it sounds, not a stiff academic transliteration.

How this collection is organised

Every shayari on this site is grouped by mood, not just by topic. On this homepage you'll find a mix of five moods: Heartbreak, Loneliness, Life, Memories, and Hope. Use the mood chips above the collection to filter to exactly one feeling, or use the search box to look for a specific word in either Hindi or English.

Every shayari card has a small Copy button. Tap it once and both the Hindi and English lines are copied together, ready to paste into a status update, a caption, or a message to a friend.

Frequently asked questions

What is 'shayari' exactly?
Shayari is a form of short Hindi/Urdu poetry, most commonly written as a two-line couplet (a sher) that expresses one complete feeling. It's widely shared on WhatsApp, Instagram, and social media across South Asia.
Is this sad shayari original, or copied from famous poets?
Every shayari on this site is original text, written specifically for this collection in the traditional sher style. None of it is copied from any poet, book, or other website, and none of it is falsely attributed to a real or invented author.
Why is there both a Hindi line and an English line for every shayari?
Some readers search and read in Hindi (Devanagari script), and many others search and read in Hinglish (Roman letters). Showing both means you never have to guess which one we mean, and can copy whichever fits your use.
Can I use these shayari on WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook?
Yes. Every shayari card has a Copy button that copies both lines at once, ready to paste anywhere you'd like to share it.
Is new shayari added to this site regularly?
Yes, this is a growing archive. New original shayari is added over time across the homepage and every category page.
How do I find shayari for a specific mood or situation?
Use the mood chips above any collection to filter instantly, or browse the category pages listed above (Love, Life, Boys, Girls, WhatsApp Status, Urdu, and more) for a more focused set.
Do I need to create an account to use this site?
No. There is no sign-up, no login, no password, and nothing to install. Every shayari is free to read, search, and copy, on any device.
Why focus specifically on sad shayari, rather than all kinds of shayari?
Sad shayari is one of the most searched and shared categories of shayari, because it gives people a short, honest way to express heartbreak, loneliness, or a hard day without writing a long message. This site is built entirely around that one mood, in depth.
